What are Dental Retainers?
Orthodontic Retainers are custom-made devices, usually made of wires or clear plastic, that hold teeth in position after surgery or any method of realigning teeth.
With the advancements in computer technology and dental materials today, we have a clear thermoplastic material that can move the teeth - little by little - by using a sequence of retainers without having braces in the mouth.
Your Company Name uses retainers after surgery or after braces have been used for realigning teeth. Retainers help the teeth stay in the correct position.
After removing your braces, the retention stage of treatment begins. The retention phase lasts for a minimum of 12 months. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers. The only guarantee to your investment in braces is to faithfully wear your retainers as prescribed.
We Use Two Types Of Retainers:
* Removable Retainers (Metal or Clear)
* Fixed Retainers
The retention phase of orthodontic treatment is as important as the active phase of tooth movement. Teeth are only held in place by ligaments, and teeth can always move if they are not held in place with a retainer.
Most times, retainers can be worn just at nighttime. Our Orthodontist will evaluate you and develop your personal retention strategy to prevent future tooth movement and orthodontic relapse.
For Lasting Success From Orthodontic Treatment:
• Wear Your Retainer As Prescribed.
• Don't Allow Your Retainer To Get Bent Or Otherwise Damaged.
• Call For A Repair Appointment If Your Retainer Is Damaged, Loosened Or Lost.
• Keep Your Retainer Clean
• Keep Your Retainer In Its Case When Not Being Worn; Never Place It In A Napkin.
Fixed Retainers are cleaned with normal brushing and flossing; however, using a Waterpik Water Flosser can be far more effective than flossing.
Removable retainers are exposed to bacteria, which can colonize on the retainers, resulting in plaque. These retainers can be cleaned by rinsing in water and brushing gently with a soft toothbrush and a small amount of nonabrasive toothpaste.

All the time spent wearing braces can easily be wasted if the patient does not wear their retainers. Retainers are the final step to the perfect smile. Retainers ensure that the teeth do not move back to their original positions. So, if you want to maintain your teeth’s new position, it is very important to wear your retainers.
